The Foundation is fortunate to have a group of music-loving trustees eminent in the fields of music, banking, advertising and the law.

David Challen (Chairman)
has a long and distinguished career in investment banking. He was chairman of Schroders' investment banking business and, following its acquisition by Citigroup, a Vice Chairman of European Investment Banking there. He was the first chairman of the Financial Services Practitioner Panel set up under the Act which created the Financial Services Authority and is a Deputy Chairman of the Takeover Panel. He is senior independent director of Anglo American plc and Smiths Group plc, at both of which he chairs the Audit Committee. He was awarded a CBE in 2002.
He has broad musical interests supporting a wide range of musical institutions. He is a director of Classical Opera Company and was a founder patron of Grange Park Opera. He was a governor of Morley College from 1993 to 1999.

Peter Alward
started his career with the music publisher Simrock, before joining EMI in 1970. For the next thirty four years, he fulfilled various roles within the Company, becoming worldwide Head of Classical Artists and Repertoire in 1985 and retaining this position until his retirement as President of EMI Classics at the end of 2004. In February 2010 he was appointed Intendant and Managing Director of the Salzburg Easter Festival and in addition retains a limited number of classical music consultancies.

John Grieves
was for 33 years a partner in Freshfields, the major international law firm, and Senior Partner for the last 6 years. He subsequently spent a decade in the corporate world as a non-executive director of a number of public companies including Enterprise Oil and Hillsdown Holdings and was chairman of First Leisure Corporation, Esporta and New Look Group. He is a patron of English National Opera and a Trustee of The Academy of Ancient Music.

John Spearman
has had a distinguished career in advertising, marketing and the media. He was Chairman and Chief Executive of the advertising agency Collett Dickinson Pearce and later Chief Executive of Classic FM. He is currently Chairman of the Framestore Group and of Scholz and Friends.
